The Department of Management Science and Logistics derived from the Department of Management Science and Engineering (discipline), which was founded in 1980. In 1996, it was among the first to offer the Ph.D. degree in Management Science and Engineering and to engage in postdoctoral research. In 2002, it was appointed as Beijing’s key discipline, and the subject of “Mobilization of National Economy” affiliated with the department was awarded as key discipline by CSTIND. In 2004, this discipline, as the mainstay, got access to the second-phase support of “985” project: “National Defense Science and Technology Management and the Research Center for National Defense Mobilization” of Philosophical and Social Sciences Innovation Base Construction Projects by the Ministry of Education. In 2012, it was awarded as the key discipline of MIIT. In May 2013, it was renamed the Department of Management Science and Logistics. Together with the Department of Management Engineering, it builds an undergraduate major in Information Management and Information System.
