Former Slovenian Minister of Finance (2002-2004, 2014-2016), member of the Slovenian National Bank Council, Slovenian Securities Markets Agency, Slovenian Minister of Finance and other council members or chairmen of government agencies and commercial banks, etc., and played an active role in the transformation process in Slovenia

            Introduction:

Slovenia formally completely reformed their governance system of state owned enterprises in 2015. Key elements of the new system are a new law, adopted general strategy, defined industry priorities, clear benchmarks, and a privatization plan. However, very sensitive political questions seriously challenge the implementation. Both, poor management in the past and sensitive political issues of today, are the key issues of improved governance and better results. Most challenges faced in Slovenia are present in other countries too, and thus the Slovenian experience provide useful lessons for reforms elsewhere. Presentation and discussion will address key issues while revealing how reality complicate matters.
